Shelby is an experimental typeface made out of synthetic pig skin. For science class we were asked to write a paragraph detailing what we would do if we were to combine biology and the arts. Inspired by artists who used their bodies as their art piece (I'm talking hooks through skin type of art), I was inspired to create a font using an out of ordinary material. This project uses strips of synthetic skin that created empty spaces whenever they had to be curved. Coincidentally, I was binging on Peaky Blinders while writing the prompt and that inspired the name for it.
Shelby works best as a display font used in Horror Movie posters.
Title sequence for the movie Funny Games
The names come in from opposite sides, being distorted by the movie title as they pass through it. The outer names are the aggressors receiving less damage. The inner names are the victims.
Title sequence for the movie Poltergeist
I wanted to have a little fun with this typeface by using different cuts of the letters. When the letters are viewed zoomed in they seem to create a noise-like pattern. This inspired me to use it in a title sequence for the movie Poltergeist.
