Preview of a geometric experimental font made from prints made out of pig skin.
Pig Skin, again?
Yes.
This was made for an Open Studio class where we were made to read essays on the grotesque and things we found repulsive. I chose to focus on time and the decay of human skin. The closest texture to human skin is pig skin which tattoo artists use to practice on. I also chose to cut each letter in geometric shapes because I wanted to have some sort of control in the experiment since I couldn't control time and what it would do the skin. To preserve a "stage" in which the skin was entering, I decided to use ink and use the skin as a stamp to create a print. That print was then scanned and digitized. What's horrific about this is the fact that something natural as skin could be turned into something that could be measured, something with constraints as are geometric shapes. To top it off, I made some posters
